Biden’s Recession Word Games Don’t Matter: The U.S. Economy Is In Deep Trouble – Having given up fixing the economy, President Joe Biden and his handlers are instead fixing the dictionary. The recent announcement of two consecutive quarters of economic contraction—the traditional start of a recession—is the result of the policies championed by Biden and his allies in Congress. Unprecedented money printing and federal spending make it harder for businesses to rebuild, leading to empty store shelves and out-of-control prices. Years of these left-wing policies have progressively gummed up the engines of our economy, and we’re all now paying the price. Instead of facing reality and stopping the damage, Biden and congressional Democrats have announced yet another legislative package filled with even more pork and misguided policies. Heritage Experts: Matthew Dickerson and Richard Stern

Biden’s risk-averse foreign policy is risky business for Americans – President Joe Biden's foreign policy is a toxic mix of ideas from both extremes of the political spectrum. On the one hand, Biden and company have embraced the Obama era policy of maximum restraint. The idea is that the less the U.S. engages in foreign affairs, the fewer problems it will have to deal with. The problem with maximum restraint is that it can let a manageable foreign problem fester and grow into a tremendous problem. It’s like when a homeowner keeps putting off fixing a leaky roof; one day the ceiling will collapse. Heritage Expert: James Carafano

As Americans reel from stagflation, Manchin pitches tax hikes – While another Great Depression isn’t likely, Schumer and Manchin’s $1 trillion tax plan may well push the economy deeper into recession. This would be devastating for American families, but it would also be terrible news for America’s fiscal situation with the national debt already standing at $30.5 trillion. Each of the last 12 U.S. recessions dating back to 1949 led to a decline in the growth of federal tax revenue. Falling economic output reduces Americans’ income and drops them into lower tax brackets. Since high-income Americans pay much more tax than low-income Americans, healthy economic growth is key to growth in tax revenues. Manchin was right the first time. More taxes are not what America needs right now. Heritage Expert: Preston Brashers

Woke History at Montpelier, James Madison’s Home - The rubric further states that American history should be approached in a “spirit of restorative justice,” and staff should undergo “significant and ongoing anti-racist training (which includes interpreting difficult history, deconstructing and interrogating white privilege, white supremacy, and systemic racism, and engaging visitors on these subjects).” Montpelier seems to agree with the dubious and inflammatory contention that slavery is not just America’s original sin but our origin. The exhibits for children and those about the Constitution focus on race and slavery. There are no exhibits on James Madison’s accomplishments. Telling a complete story of America means acknowledging not just the evils of slavery but also America’s significant contributions to the cause of human freedom. Sadly, the latter is sorely lacking at Montpelier. Heritage Expert: Brenda Hafera

Time to stop home prices from going through the roof – Blaming real estate investors for the resulting misery may score political points. But demagoguery does nothing to alleviate it. Lawmakers can start to restore this bedrock of the American dream by removing federal subsidies from the housing market, restricting the Federal Reserve’s power to purchase a limitless quantity of mortgages, and eliminating the artificial barriers to housing supply erected by local leaders. It’s time to stop home prices from going through the roof. Heritage Expert: Joel Griffith

Meet the California Gun Law That Copies the Texas Heartbeat Law's Unique Feature - In keeping a promise he made last year, California Gov. Gavin Newsom just signed a bill modeled on the Texas heartbeat law. Their unique feature? Both laws seek to evade pre-enforcement judicial review by eliminating the power of state officials to enforce the law.  Both the California and Texas laws can only be enforced by “private civil actions” seeking damages, and not by the public officials normally tasked with enforcing state and federal law. While the Texas law is designed to prevent abortions, the California law instead takes aim at gun ownership. Heritage Expert: Sarah Parshall Perry
