John
The Mayor of London is planning to give the Metropolitan Police a new way to conduct mass surveillance, and I need your help to challenge this in court.
The police have had ‘limited access’ to data from Automated Number-Plate Recognition (ANPR) road cameras since 2014. But the current Mayor has expanded these powers to include the whole of inner London and added ‘enhanced contextual imagery data’.
With the Met Police having recently been placed into special measures due to ‘systematic’ failings, I believe that with so many awful revelations bringing trust and confidence in our police to an all-time low, Londoners should have been asked if they would trust the Met police with this massive database about their daily movements.
That's why I have teamed up with the privacy campaigning organisation, Open Rights Group (ORG) to challenge the Mayor to consult Londoners on these plans. ORG needs £30,000 is needed for legal costs, so please donate now to help to stop the Mayor from simply handing this mass surveillance network to the Metropolitan Police.
Thanks
