Friend, over the weekend, our federal advocacy team worked long hours urging senators to reject harmful amendments raised during a 24-hour “vote-a-rama," where an unlimited number of amendments could be added to the Inflation Reduction Act before the Senate voted on it. And our hard work paid off — the Senate voted down every anti-immigrant amendment, including amendments that would have codified the Trump administration’s Title 42 asylum ban.

Many of you sent an email to your senators last week, and your voices helped make the difference, Friend. This victory is a testament to our advocacy and power as a movement, and we couldn’t have done it without you. Once signed into law, the Inflation Reduction Act will bolster the health of our communities and ensure future generations have a more sustainable world to live in.

Yesterday was proof in action that our elected officials can deliver on historic legislation while still upholding our legal and moral obligations to asylum seekers and without using immigrant communities as bargaining chips.

Join us in sending a message of thanks to Senators Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Alex Padilla (D-CA) for their early leadership and moral clarity in urging their colleagues to reject all anti-immigrant amendments.

ADD A MESSAGE OF THANKS

There's no question in my mind that we would have seen a different, much scarier result had it not been for the incredible work of people like you, our movement as whole, and our champions in Congress. Now that we’ve fended off multiple anti-immigrant attacks, we will once again turn our attention back to pushing Congress to pass urgent, pro-immigrant legislation, like a permanent solution and pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients.

Thank you for being with us in this fight and those to come, Friend.

Sincerely,

Raha Wala
