Monday, August 8, 2022 | The Latest Research, Commentary, And News From Health Affairs
Dear John,

On August 17, author Charlotte Probst will join us for the next Journal Club event for Health Affairs Insiders to discuss the findings of the paper
"Alcohol-Attributable Deaths Help Drive Growing Socioeconomic Inequalities In US Life Expectancy."
Lessons From COVID-19
In the August issue, Ann Nguyen and coauthors find that the New Jersey COVID-19 Temporary Emergency Reciprocity Licensure Program served as a valuable, short-term solution to mitigate health care workforce shortages.

In a Perspective responding to Nguyen and coauthors, Humayun Chaudhry writes that takeaways from the COVID-19 pandemic should inform the nation’s emergency preparedness to ensure better access to care.

He examines how expedited licenses, licensing waivers, interstate licensure compacts can improve access to care in the future during public health emergencies.

In particular, Chaudhry discusses the merits of data credentialing platforms, such as ProviderBridge, in facilitating flexible responsiveness in public health emergencies.

Altogether, Chaudhry notes that there are many lessons to be learned from the nation’s experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. These lessons will inform and improve health care delivery and access to care during emergencies and beyond.
