Hi all,
This is one of the best good news stories in politics you’ll hear all year. Back when our campaign was gathering signatures to get on the ballot, one of our most passionate volunteers who I met at UW-Madison, Bill Tishler, had an epiphany. His experience of reaching out to community members, although a bit outside his comfort zone, lit a spark. He realized that he couldn’t sit on the sidelines any longer and wanted to more directly contribute to making democracy responsive to ordinary people.
At that moment, there was an opening on the Madison Common Council. Moved to serve the community where he has lived for 50 years, he applied, interviewed, and beat out a very competitive group of well-known Madison leaders. Within two weeks, Bill Tishler went from gathering signatures for our campaign to serving as Madison’s newest Alder! Wow! I was honored to join and congratulate Alder Tishler right after he was sworn in. |
