The proof is in the numbers. Look inside.

John The Inflation Reduction Act that passed the Senate this weekend had a few bumps along the way.

Originally included in the bill was a popular amendment to cap the price of insulin at $35 per month for anyone with health insurance.

But that amendment was defeated because it didn’t clear the 60-vote threshold needed to defeat a filibuster – and my opponent was one of the 43 Republicans who voted no.

The vote was not a shock to me, knowing how much money Crapo takes from Big Pharma. But when you look at the numbers, it really does show you how cheap life is to someone like my opponent.

A graphic depicting the amount of donations received by Mike Crapo from the Pharmaceutical industry, totaling $141,550, compared to the number of Americans dependant on insulin for treatment of Type I or Type II Diabetes, an estimated 9.3 million. This calculates to approximately 1.5 cents per life impacted.

While I’m thankful the $35 cap will remain in place for seniors on Medicare, it is infuriating that low-income patients on Medicaid – people who most need this financial support – and private insurance patients get stuck with the higher cost of insulin.

Despite the fact it remains very cheap to produce, out of pocket costs for insulin have gone up 300-500% in recent years because only a handful of drugmakers produce this high-demand, life-saving drug.

This pushes many low-income diabetics to ration their insulin, or have to choose between the insulin they need to live, a roof over their heads, or food on the table.

And it’s not just insulin that is impacted by Big Pharma’s greed. The fact is up to two-thirds of diabetics are not insulin-dependent. Many – like me – rely on other very expensive medications. In fact, my out-of-pocket costs for one of my medications also recently increased by 300%!

The immoral and inexcusable high cost of medications forces people to make life and death decisions. I’m running for U.S. Senate to put an end to using people’s lives as a political bargaining chip.

My opponent is bought-and-paid for by corporate interests, and you and I are paying the price with higher bills at the pharmacy.

It has to stop, John. That’s why I need your help to defeat Mike Crapo and flip this U.S. Senate seat in November. Will you join us?

Fighting for our lives,

- David

David Roth is a single, gay dad running to flip a U.S. Senate seat in Idaho. His opponent is an extremist “pro-life” Republican who’s been in politics for 37 years. David stepped up to serve the state that has been his home most of his life, where he is now raising his two young sons, because every state is worth fighting for. There has never been an openly gay man elected to the U.S. Senate. Help us make history this year. Pitch in now to flip this seat and send David to D.C.
