'Kansas will not be our last fight': Abortion rights victory gives Democrats new hope for midterms

Team, Kansas is proof of the power of organizing.

Last week, Kansans shut down any questions about where they stand on abortion rights. In a landslide victory on Tuesday, voters from across the political spectrum voted to protect abortion access, defeating a constitutional amendment that would have paved the way to a total abortion ban in the state.

I applaud the organizers and activists in Kansas who fought tooth and nail for freedom. It shouldn't matter where you live. Everyone deserves access to a full spectrum of reproductive health care in their own community.

I have been consistent on this issue my entire life, because women deserve a choice and freedom. Period. My opponent has openly supported anti-abortion Republican lawmakers and has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to their causes. He's a life-long, former Republican, who registered as a Democrat just weeks before filing for this election.

Angelenos deserve better. That's why today, I'm asking you to take action.

Los Angeles has been a safe haven for women’s rights and reproductive freedom for decades. This city deserves a leader who will proudly stand up in the face of growing extremism and defend reproductive freedom. And I'm ready to roll up my sleeves and be that leader for you.
