Congratulations to the new PPT Board Members, elected by our general membership to lead us 2022-2024! |
Pittsburghers for Public Transit is a democratic, grassroots, member-led organization and we practice what we preach. For the last three months, our members participated in a nomination and election process to choose a new group of leaders to step onto our Board of Directors. At last, the results are in. Congratulations to Ricardo Villarreal, Andrew Hussein, Fawn Walker-Montgomery, Verna Johnson, Lisa Gonzalez and Sue Scanlon for being elected to our board.
Thank you to all of the PPT members who participated this year, whether they ran in the election, whether they learned about the candidates or whether they cast their ballot. Our organization wouldn't be able to run without you. |

It's the transit advocate's social event of the season! Join PPT for our Summer Party; August 10th, 6-8pm in Schenley Park. |
This will be the first in-person PPT party since the start of the pandemic. And we have a lot to celebrate! We've come together to help need it most. We’ve won the first-ever long-range plan for transit expansion – and we’ve secured millions of dollars to expand service. We defeated the Mon Oakland Connector and we’re fighting for investments in affordable housing and community needs. We’re building a strong and growing membership program to bring more people into this work.
Join us at the Bartlett Shelter in Schenley Park on August 10th, 6-8pm. Food, drinks, music, and good times will be provided. Feel free to bring a side dish or dessert to share. RSVP below or email [email protected] if you have any questions, accessibility needs, or if you want a ride.

New analysis on Kansas City's Zero Fare transit program shows the incredible benefits of affordable transit. Its time for Allegheny County to implement affordable fare policies now. |
"Almost 90% of the riders surveyed said they rode the buses more as a result of Zero Fare. About 92% said it allowed them to shop for food more often; 88% said they could see their healthcare providers more easily or more often; 82% said it allowed them to get or keep a job; and 86% said it made them feel like city leadership is concerned about their needs — a sore subject for mostly-Black East Side residents, who often complain that the city pays more attention to its whiter and more affluent west side."
Affordable fare policies benefit everyone. Riders can spend that money on other essentials. Transit agencies see ridership increase. Cities benefit from more connected communities. Allegheny County's leadership cannot afford to sleep on a low-income fare program any longer - riders need this program now. |
