Senator Duckworth here. Today, I am proud to announce that I am endorsing Mayor Lori Lightfoot's reelection campaign for Mayor of Chicago.
The success of working families is deeply personal to me. Growing up, my family struggled to make ends meet. By the time I was 16, I was working to support our family. By my early 20s, I followed in my father's footsteps and joined the military.
I then became a passionate advocate for Veterans — work that took me to the Obama administration, the House of Representatives, and eventually the U.S. Senate. Throughout my career, my eyes have been opened to all the struggles moms who work outside the home like myself and Lori face, and I've been determined to do whatever I can to help working families get ahead.
I know Mayor Lightfoot shares these same values, which is why I'm proud to endorse her reelection campaign today.
Chicago families need a leader who shows up for them — something Mayor Lightfoot has done time and time again. She took on the pandemic while prioritizing equity and inclusion, worked to raise the minimum wage, and took on systemic inequality and political corruption. And with another term, she will continue to make a Chicago that works for ALL of us.
