Former president Donald Trump remains determined to lead our country down
a very dark path. And he might succeed, if we fail to respond to lies like
the ones he leveled this weekend at a rally in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

“These are the very same people who perpetrated the lies that I was an agent of
Russia, like shifty Adam Schiff. Watermelon head and others…Adam Schiff made up
along with crooked Hillary and others. They made up the Russian hoax, and then I
watched Adam Schiff stand by the microphones so sanctimonious and say, Donald
Trump Jr. should go to jail for what he did with Russia...

“Our biggest threat remains the sick, sinister, and evil people from within our
country, the same people we’re talking about.”

“Sick. Sinister. Evil.”

These are the words of a disgraced, twice-impeached ex-president, prone to
inciting violent attacks on our democratic institutions, whose millions of
devoted followers hang onto, and repeat, his every word. Of course, he
didn’t stop with the lies about me, or his Russia misconduct or that of
Don Jr. Of far greater importance are the lies he went on to repeat about
the last election — falsely insisting again that he won the election he
lost.

Here is the truth,

The worst thing we can do is to grow complacent about Trump’s false
statements. If we fail to call out Trump on his Big Lie, he wins. And
democracy loses. Just as more people believe the lies or don’t know what
to believe anymore.
