Dear John,

ImageLast week I visited Fire Station 79 in Fontana with San Bernardino County Fire Department Chief Dan Munsey to discuss the work we’re doing in Congress to keep our communities safe from wildfires. Every year, our region has to grapple with wildfires wreaking havoc on the landscape, destroying property and threatening livelihoods.

And as Chief Munsey will tell you, fires don’t respect boundaries or jurisdictions. When fires start on federal lands, like the San Bernardino National Forest, and burn out of control, the hard-working men and women of our local fire departments answer the call.

That’s why I was proud to help pass the Wildfire Response and Drought Resiliency Act, which will help mitigate wildfires, strengthen our water supply to reduce drought conditions and ensures that the Inland Empire is equipped with the resources we need. This is going to protect homes and small businesses that are threatened by out-of-control wildfires.Image

There is a common denominator in all this: extreme weather events are becoming more prevalent here and throughout the world.

We cannot wait any longer to act on climate change, the safety of our communities depend on it.

Thanks,
