Friends, "It’s the economy, stupid.” Clinton advisor James Carville coined this phrase during the 1992 presidential election to try to paint the opposition as being out-of-touch with the needs of Americans during an economic recession. The same phrase could be applied today. We are now in an economic recession. That’s why it is so critical that we have common-sense problem solvers in Congress. For the second quarter in a row, economic growth shrank, while interest rates spiked. Inflation is at a 40-year high, while savings and retirement accounts are running low. Businesses are posting “help wanted” signs, while supply chain and labor market issues threaten to keep them afloat. Just as Americans are finally getting their lives back to “normal,” we’re now faced with this economic catastrophe. |
