On the morning of February 24, Dr. Sasha Sholokov, a Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff member, was jarred awake by the sound of an explosion. Russian shelling had struck near his home in Mariupol, shaking the walls and forcing him, his wife, and their 2-year-old son to immediately grab what they could and flee for safety.
“I remember this day, actually,” he told us. “Maybe I’ll keep these pictures in my mind forever.”
MSF doctors, nurses, logisticians, and other medical staff like Dr. Sholokov deserve to know that millions of supporters around the world see and deeply appreciate their lifesaving work.
