Friends,
ICYMI - The U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act last week! This legislation restores key provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and helps prevent racial discrimination in voting. With the passage of H.R. 4, the fight against voter suppression has taken a crucial step forward.
We are proud to be part of the coalition that made this victory a reality.
For 20 years, Advancement Project National Office has worked to protect the right to vote for communities of color. Because of our work in states like Ohio, Missouri, Florida and Georgia, we know communities of color face more barriers in casting a ballot. We work every day—not just in election years—so every voice can be heard, and so Black and Brown voters can build power locally.
To help us continue this work, please consider a gift of $20 today in support of our Power & Democracy Program.
But we know this fight isn’t over.
In recent years, over 20 states have enacted discriminatory laws like strict voter ID requirements, cut early voting days, or purged voter rolls. These measures were intentionally designed to make it harder for people of color to vote.
That’s why in the last quarter of this year we have:
- Celebrated a significant legal victory with Missouri voting rights advocates and plaintiffs in the case we helped lead, expanding statewide access to voter registration.
- Released We Vote We Count, a groundbreaking voting rights report in partnership with national allies like the NAACP, UnidosUS, Faith in Action and others. Co-authored by our Litigation Director Gilda Daniels, this report describes accounts of voter interference, which disproportionately harms communities of color, gathered through “People’s Hearings” across the country in 2019.
To finish the fight, we’re asking you to stand with us in this work and call on the U.S. Senate to vote on this bill. Contact your senator today if you care about voting rights and ask them to call for a vote on this bill. And please, also consider supporting Advancement Project National Office as we continue our fight to protect and expand voter protection efforts across the country.
Take a look at what we’ve accomplished in 2019 in our Year End Review. We hope you will partner with us during our 20th Anniversary year and partner with us for the next 20 years.
Onward,
