Dear John --

I am excited to share with you two upcoming public meetings that I am hosting over the coming weeks on the Fair Pay Agreements and Housing.

If you have any questions about either, please email [email protected] or phone 03 344 2800.

‘Fair’ Pay Agreements Public Meeting - 17 August

The Government has recently introduced an overhaul of New Zealand’s labour laws to parliament. The changes will place power in the hands of unions and put centralised wage bargaining back at the heart of industrial relations law.

The new labour laws will take away the rights of individuals to negotiate terms, conditions, and rates with their employers. Even the Government’s own ministry, MBIE, has recommended less drastic courses of action and warned of ‘significant risks’ in pursing Fair Pay Agreements.

This legislation is not about fair pay; it is about the Government imposing mandatory union deals on Kiwi workplaces. Employers and workers would be forced into bargaining and swept along with sector-wide deals, regardless of their wishes or special circumstances.

You are invited to hear from National’s Workplace Relations and Justice Spokesperson, Hon Paul Goldsmith MP, about how these agreements will impact local businesses and the economy.

Wednesday 17 August

5:15pm

Rolleston College Library, 631 Springston Rolleston Road

Public Meeting on Housing and Covid - 22 August

The state house waiting list is up by more than 20,000 since Labour took office, $1 billion has been spent on emergency housing in the last five years, and Kāinga Ora have barely built more homes than they have demolished in 2022.

In Selwyn, house prices increased over 37% in the past year and rent has increased by $90/week in the same period.

Come and hear from National's Housing, Infrastructure, and Covid-19 Spokeperson, Chris Bishop, to discuss National's view on the housing and land market in New Zealand, as well as the country's Covid-19 response.

Monday 22 August

5:30pm

Te Ara Ātea - Rolleston Library, 56 Tennyson Street

Kind regards,

Nicola Grigg
