August 7, 2022

Dear Georgian,

Last week, the U.S. Coast Guard celebrated it's 232nd Birthday. Thank you to all who serve and have served. Semper Paratus!

President Biden also announced that Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri was killed by a U.S. drone strike in Kabul. This is a victory for our nation following Biden's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. God bless all those who delivered justice for the families of al-Zawahiri’s victims.

As 2023 approaches, the House Agriculture Committee is working toward the next Farm Bill. This legislation shapes every aspect of ag policy and it’s critical that voices in the Eighth District are heard. We need to know what’s working and what can be improved. If you are a farmer, take a moment to provide feedback here.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,

Visiting Farms in Bleckley and Twiggs Counties

Georgia is home to some of the hardest working farmers in the nation. Last week, I visited farms in Bleckley and Twiggs Counties to see the research that UGA extension is doing with farmers in our district to help with disease management and yield production so that our farmers can continue feeding and clothing the world.

Holding the EPA Accountable for Our Farmers

Instead of supporting America's farmers as they produce the food and fiber we depend on, Biden's EPA Administrator Michael Regan is imposing woke pesticide regulations that disregard decades of precedent and appease environmental extremists.

I joined House Agriculture Republican Leaders in asking Chairman Scott to hold a hearing with Administrator Regan to review his policies and ensure that our farmers and ranchers are not experiencing unnecessary, burdensome regulations amid record inflation and other challenges.

Attending the Change of Command Ceremony at Robins Air Force Base

On Wednesday, I had the honor of attending the change of command ceremony for Lt. Gen. John Healy, who is the new Chief of Air Force Reserve and Commander, Air Force Reserve Command, at Robins Air Force Base.

Lt. Gen. Healy is taking over for Lt. Gen. Richard Scobee, who is retiring after 36 years of service.

Congratulations to Lt. Gen. Healy! Our district and nation are lucky to have such an outstanding patriot leading our world-class Air Force Reservists at Robins and around the globe.

Agri-pulse | House Ag Republicans ask for hearing with Regan

"Eight GOP members of the House Agriculture Committee are calling for a hearing with the head of the Environmental Protection Agency to discuss the nation’s pesticide law.

In a letter to committee Chair David Scott, D-Ga., Ranking Member Glenn 'GT' Thompson, R-Pa., and seven other panel members categorize EPA as 'an agency that has historically overregulated the agriculture industry.' They also note that Michael Regan, who was confirmed as EPA’s administrator in March 2021, has yet to appear before the committee.'"

Just the News | Chinese pundit suggests shooting down Pelosi's plane ahead of Taiwan trip

"Hu Xijin, former editor-in-chief of the Chinese state-run Global Times, on Friday suggested that the People's Liberation Army shoot down a plane carrying House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan if U.S. fighters escort her to the island.

'If US fighter jets escort Pelosi’s plane into Taiwan, it is invasion,' Hu wrote on Twitter. 'The PLA has the right to forcibly dispel Pelosi’s plane and the US fighter jets, including firing warning shots and making tactical movement of obstruction. If ineffective, then shoot them down.'"
