In a statement Andrew said, "I was proud to secure $3 million for this sewer expansion to aid in the revitalization of Central Islip. The age and density of sewer our systems cannot sustain the rate of growth we have seen in our population and economy. This is a serious barrier to doing business on Long Island, a problem I saw firsthand even before entering office in my work as a private attorney aiding small businesses. This project is going to have a major economic and environmental impact on this community. I thank Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Councilman Jim O’Conner, and the Town of Islip for working so closely with me and my office to bring this funding to fruition." ANDREW IN THE NEWS Town receiving $3 million in federal funds for new downtown sewer line " Islip Town announced Thursday that it is receiving $3 million in federal funding toward the line, which will run more than half a mile down Carleton Avenue, from Suffolk Avenue south to Smith Street. Sewer infrastructure is considered a crucial part of the town’s plans for $10 million in state Downtown Revitalization Initiative, or DRI, funds, which it received in 2018. “This is the last piece,” said Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter at a press conference in a downtown parking lot that is slated to be the site of a three-story multi-use building with 100 apartments. “This is the kind of thing that people don’t see but it really helps make it all happen.” Carpenter said the $3 million — secured by Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-Bayport) through a HUD grant ... will complete the funding needed for the sewer line. The town received $7.5 million from a federal department of commerce grant, as well as $2 million from the DRI and $1 million from the town’s Industrial Development Agency. “This is very exciting because this project is going to change the rest of this community, change it for the better,” Garbarino said, adding that a lack of sewers is “a serious problem and a barrier to doing business on Long Island.” " Read the full article here. Only 4% of Scouts ever reach the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout and achieving this is a sign of hard work and dedication. Andrew Releases Travel PSA Urging Long Islanders To Plan Ahead and Renew Their Passports As travel picks up following the pandemic, many travelers are finding that their passports have expired. Andrew's casework team has been working diligently to assist with emergency passport renewals, but not all travel qualifies for emergency status. To ensure your travel plans aren't derailed by an expired passport, Andrew urges every Long Islander to check their passport status before booking travel and to leave plenty of time for your renewal application. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Ensuring Coverage For 9/11 Responder A retired 9/11 first responder from Ronkonkoma who suffers from 9/11 related cancer and PTSD recently contact our office after his prescriptions, normally covered under the World Trade Center Health Program, were denied coverage suddenly after two years on the same medication. Our caseworkers contact the WTC Health Program and discovered that they had switched prescription providers which resulted in the denial of coverage. We were able to work with the WTC Health Program to resolve the issue and ensure that this 9/11 hero continues to recieve coverage for the medication he needs. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need for the federal government. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Helps Introduce Bill to Help Struggling Families Heat Their Homes this Winter Andrew helped introduce the Home Heating Emergency Funding Act of 2022 which would provide emergency funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to help struggling families across the country afford to heat their homes this winter amidst rising fuel costs. In a statement announcing the bill, Andrew said, “Long Islanders and Americans across the country are dealing with astronomical energy prices on top of rising costs for basic necessities across the board. This legislation will provide much needed relief to some of the most vulnerable families in our community and help ensure they are able to heat their homes this winter.” Legislation To Provide Benefits To Burn Pit Victims Advances This week, the Senate voted to pass the Honoring Our PACT Act which will unlock benefits for 3.5 million veterans who suffer from cancers and other illnesses as a result of service related toxic exposure. Andrew was proud to vote to provide these more than earned benefits to our nations heroes when it came up for a vote in the House. Our veterans have served our country with dignity and distinction. They risked everything in order to preserve our freedoms and they deserve our unyielding gratitude and support when they return home which is why we owe it to them to release these much needed benefits as soon as possible.
