Happy weekend, friends!

A PERSONAL NOTE

 

Hi, there! I hope the last real month of summer is treating you well.

We have had some crazy weather here that killed my tomato plants. First,
it poured every single day for almost two weeks. We're talking
torrential rain. But this was followed by intense, blazing sun, and my
poor plants just withered.

My jalapenos and bell peppers and herbs are still thriving. My squash
plant is huge and glorious but has yet to produce anything but flowers.
My herbs are all doing beautifully too. I guess, in gardening, like in
life, you win some and you lose some.

I love summer in the South. You get beautiful evenings with the crickets
chirping in the moonlight and the fireflies sparkling, and you get hot
sunny days that are best spent near the water. I'm spending my lunch
break at the apartment building pool and doing some swimming for
exercise and attacking my giant pile of unread books.

This week I read Jim Cobb's soon-to-be-released book, The Urban
Prepper's Guide, and I strongly recommend it for anyone - not just city
folks. It's filled with Jim's common-sense advice and has none of the
hysteria you see in many books about urban preparedness. This book has a
place on your shelf.  You can pre-order it on Amazon or your favorite
