Hello John,

I wanted to reach out with the news that yesterday, Judge John Cooper, of the 2nd Judicial Circuit, ruled that my opponent, Rebekah Jones, is not qualified for candidacy in the upcoming Democratic primary on August 23rd.

As a result, an order will be issued on Monday, which will instruct the Supervisors of Elections in the First Congressional District not to count votes cast for Rebekah Jones.

As Judge Cooper stated, “anyone who puts themselves up for public office should be commended.” It certainly is not easy to run for office.

However, the laws to qualify are clear. All congressional candidates must comply with the same set of rules to become qualified candidates ([link removed]) .

Jones was not a member of the Democratic party for the required 365 days before the qualifying period. Therefore, she violated her Candidate Oath.

I understand that some may not agree with my decision to file suit against Jones. However, had I not filed suit when I did, the Republicans, armed with the same information about Jones, would have sued immediately following the primary, should she have won. This would have left the Democratic party with a gaping void on the ballot this November against Gaetz.

My decision to address Jones’ qualifying violation now ensures the Democratic party will mount a great fight to unseat Matt Gaetz in the general election.

I have always wanted to make this campaign about defeating Matt Gaetz, who has not delivered on his promises as our representative. Our campaign is now laser-focused on defeating him, and we hope the constituents of the First Congressional District will unite with me in achieving this goal.

We have an uphill battle ahead against the deep-pocketed Gaetz machine. I would appreciate any support you can give to our campaign, even if just $5 or $10.
