With the help of my office’s DNA forensic genealogy program, three law enforcement agencies recently solved three decades-old cold cases, and put two violent criminals behind bars.

This program is part of my Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, which has been an important step forward in administering justice for sexual assaul survivors in Washington. We are clearing the rape kit backlog, closing gaps in our state’s DNA collection, solving cold cases, and holistically improving our state’s response to sexual assault.
We are just getting started. My office is working with law enforcement on 20 additional cold case investigations across the state.
