The end of the year is quickly approaching … perhaps you have made a profit in a stock that you would like to donate to Americans United for Life. Or you may want to make a charitable contribution directly from an IRA.

By donating gifts of appreciated securities, you may be able to avoid capital gains penalties that could result in paying Uncle Sam exorbitant taxes on your shrewd investments. We encourage you to help Americans United for Life continue its vital work to defend life from conception until natural death.

Congress passed the PATH Act to permanently extend the IRA Charitable Rollover. This allows those over age 70 ½ to transfer up to $100,000 from their IRA (Roth or traditional) to a qualified charity of their choice … hopefully you will consider Americans United for Life.

IRA charitable rollovers are tax-free, are not included in adjusted gross income, and they may fulfill part or all of your required minimum distribution. In order to avoid paying taxes on the IRA distribution, you distribute them directly from your IRA to the charity of your choice. We deeply appreciate you considering Americans United for Life as your recipient organization!

Please let us know if you have any questions on how to transfer shares of stock or other appreciated assets before the year-end tax deadline.
