I'm going to be upfront with you, Jack. The vast majority of our donations come from people reading emails like this one.
If your email inbox is anything like mine, it is bursting at the seams with emails from candidates and organizations asking for money. Unfortunately, it's getting harder and harder for us to break through the cacophony of emails.
Over the past year, Daily Kos has not only seen a drop in our average donation but also a seven percent drop in the number of donations. Considering that nearly half of our revenue comes from our readers and activists donating just a few bucks at a time, this combined downward trend makes us nervous, especially as we are starting to ramp our Get Out the Vote programs.
Daily Kos is the country's largest progressive and independent news and activism hub. That simply means that we don't have some big billionaire backer, part of some mega-corporation, or have a list of sponsors that use their purse strings to control what we said and did. We are pretty proud of that. We couldn't claim to be independent without the continued support of thousands of our readers and activists.
The single most powerful thing you can do to support our work is set up a monthly recurring contribution. Can you donate $5 or whatever you can afford, a month to Daily Kos?
I understand if you can't commit to giving monthly, please consider making a one-time donation of $5 to support our work.
Thanks for all you do,
Amanda McKay, Daily Kos
