Gov. Justice holds groundbreaking ceremony for new section of Coalfields Expressway ([link removed])
On Monday, Gov. Justice joined West Virginia Department of Transportation officials for a ceremony to celebrate the start of work on a major road project to connect the Town of Welch with the Coalfields Expressway.

The $147.6 million project – which is part of the Governor’s Roads To Prosperity program – will be completed by Bizzack Construction of Lexington, KY.

Gov. Justice: Record-setting revenue surpluses continue into new Fiscal Year ([link removed])

Gov. Justice announced Tuesday that West Virginia’s General Revenue collections for July 2022 of $381.1 million were $92.4 million above estimates and 24.6% ahead of prior year receipts.

Coming off a $1.308 billion surplus in Fiscal Year 2022 – the greatest year of revenue collections in state history ([link removed]) – West Virginia kicked off Fiscal Year 2023 by setting another all-time record in July, as total severance tax collections for all funds were a state record $90.7 million in July, an increase of nearly 187% over last year.

On Tuesday, Gov. Justice approved over $3.3 million in Weatherization Assistance Program grant funding for 12 agencies across the state working to reduce energy costs for low-income families by improving the energy efficiency of their homes.

Gov. Justice announces West Virginia Sales Tax Holiday continues through Monday, August 8 ([link removed])

West Virginians in need of materials for the upcoming school year will be able to save money this weekend during the state’s back-to-school Sales Tax Holiday. During the holiday, certain back-to-school items are exempt from sales tax, such as clothing, school supplies, school instructional materials, laptops and tablets, and sports equipment.

The Sales Tax Holiday started on Friday, August 5, and will continue through Monday, August 8, at 11:59 p.m.

WVDOH and city of Hinton devise plans to repair sinkhole ([link removed])

The West Virginia Division of Highways is working with the city of Hinton to repair a large sinkhole that opened alongside WV 20 just north of Hinton.

WVDOH plans to stabilize the roadway fill by carefully sliding approximately 120 linear feet of round "slip liner" culvert inside the existing box culvert. The slip liner will extend from the existing inlet to the failure area.

Preliminary West Virginia electric vehicle charging station plan complete ([link removed])

The West Virginia Department of Transportation has completed a preliminary plan of proposed locations for electric vehicle charging stations and submitted it to the federal government.

The West Virginia National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Deployment Plan was submitted on Thursday, July 28. The plan outlines proposed locations for electric vehicle charging stations throughout the state and how West Virginia intends to use federal NEVI program funds to develop charging stations along major highways.

West Virginia is expected to get close to $45.7 million over the next five years through the NEVI program to help develop charging stations and electric vehicle infrastructure.

WVDOH won't let it slide: Nearly 300 slip and slide repairs on the schedule ([link removed])

The West Virginia Division of Highways has nearly 300 slip and slide repair projects scheduled this construction season.

So far this year, the WVDOH has repaired 198 roadside slips or slides statewide, with another 99 repair projects scheduled. Slip and slide repairs will exceed last year’s total of 235 repairs. From Gov. Justice and Secretary of Transportation Jimmy Wriston, to County Administrators and Crew Chiefs on the ground, WVDOH is taking a systematic approach to catching up long underfunded maintenance on West Virginia's secondary roads.
