Dear friend,
I’ll be honest with you: When Fairness Project started powering ballot measures campaigns more than 7 years ago, we never could have imagined protecting access to abortion would come down to this.
Back in 2015, we were laser-focused on fights that had already made their way to the states. We knew ballot measures were perhaps the most powerful tool voters had at their disposal, and we were readily using this tool to expand health care access, raise wages, and help workers secure paid family leave.
But back then, we never imagined that ballot measures and the arsenal of tools direct democracy empowers us with would become the most vital and likely way for us to preserve every American’s reproductive freedom.
This past week in Kansas, we saw voters from all backgrounds come together and overwhelmingly strike down a measure politicians had put on the ballot to ban access to abortion.
Team, our work has always been important, but now ballot measures are quite literally our last line of defense to protect reproductive choice.
This win proves again that voters in blue, purple, and red states all agree: Politicians shouldn’t have the last say on what decisions we make with our bodies — we will.
We’ve been working to advance progress and protect our fundamental rights through direct democracy for years, but the results out of Kansas are one of the most exciting moments we’ve ever seen.
Now, we must keep up the momentum to make sure that no matter which attacks come our way, we’re successful in protecting abortion in Michigan and Vermont. That’s why we’re throwing every resource we can behind these two movements, and team, we’d love to have your support alongside us. If you’re with us in the fight to power both of these campaigns to victory, please contribute $25 now to help us win in Michigan and Vermont this November. [[link removed]]
