This is deeply personal.

A gunman with an AR-15 slaughtered my sweet 14 year-old nephew, Alex, at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre in Parkland, Florida.

After that devastating tragedy, one thing became abundantly clear: If the federal ban on assault weapons had never expired, my nephew and the 16 other students and educators would still be alive today.

We FINALLY passed a bill to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban in the House after a long summer of lobbying Republicans and Democrats in the halls of Congress.

This is a HISTORIC moment. But now we have to fight to pass it in the Senate too. So we need to gather an UNPRECEDENTED show of support – 1,598 gifts before midnight – to prove voters from overwhelmingly support an assault weapons ban and DEMAND your Senator votes for it. Real leaders – like the 215 House Democrats and two House Republicans who voted to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban – aren’t afraid to stand up for the safety of our children and our communities. They aren’t afraid to say:

ENOUGH death and carnage
ENOUGH playing politics with our lives

And they aren’t afraid to take action.

Real leaders understand that we will never be safe until we ban these weapons of war – built solely for killing.

The AR-15 enabled a white supremacist at my nephew’s school to shoot 34 people in 3 minutes during the Parkland tragedy.

A SIG Sauer MCX gave a domestic terrorist the ability to shoot 102 people in Orlando in less than 5 minutes during the Pulse massacre.

That’s why we need a MASSIVE response – 1,598 gifts before midnight – to show the Senate what it takes to be a real leader, prove voters in UNDENIABLY support banning assault weapons, and DEMAND they take action to protect our communities from mass slaughter.
