Congressman Al Green Participates in Black Health Matters Summer Health Summit
(Houston, TX) - On Saturday, August 6, 2022, Congressman Al Green released the following statement:
“Although great strides have been made to address the health disparities that exist for the Black population in America, too many Black communities across the nation still suffer from a multiplicity of health challenges at a higher rate than their White counterparts. This is why I am proud to participate in the Black Health Matters Summer Health Summit.”
“According to a 2020 American Cancer Society publication, Black Americans have the highest death rate and shortest survival of any racial and ethnic group for most cancers, as well as experience more illness, worse outcomes, and premature death compared to Whites. Additionally, the American Cancer Society also noted that about one third of Black American women reported experiencing racial discrimination at a healthcare provider visit.”
“These statistics are unacceptable, which is why I am so grateful to the health experts and advocates who made this summit conference possible. These leaders’ commitments to equipping the Black community with the tools needed to make informed decisions about their health and wellness is invaluable. A person’s health is of utmost importance and should never be gambled with. Ensuring people have the necessary tools to make informed decisions is one of the best contributors to good healthcare.”
