Join us Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 ET/4:30 PT for our live organizing call with Our Revolution, US Rep. Ro Khanna, and worker activists to win AB 257 - the FAST Recovery Act - to give workers a seat at the table! We’re shifting the window of what’s possible. ★ ★ ★ Less than 100 days from the midterms, Dems need to deliver. On Tuesday, voters in Kansas rose up to defend abortion rights and now it seems a compromise deal has been struck with rightwing Sens. Manchin and Sinema. “Everyone is looking at this reconciliation bill, and it’s something, but it’s late and it’s little,” Our Revolution Political Director Aaron Chappell told Politico. “Is it enough to deal with widespread frustrations with the president, especially with the progressive base? We’ll have to see.” The Inflation Reduction Act is a real mixed bag - investments in clean energy but more drilling on federal lands, drug price cuts but only a handful in 2026, stock buyback limits while saving tax loopholes, etc. Our Revolution is part of a Climate Justice Coalition of 350 groups urging Biden and Schumer to deny Manchin’s huge giveaway to Big Oil — toxic drilling provisions written by the American Petroleum Institute, Common Dreams reports. Bernie also laid out the good, the bad, and the ugly of the deal in a senate speech this week — waging the fight for measures on childcare, homelessness, student debt. He’ll introduce amendments to let Medicare negotiate drug prices like the VA and eliminate new fossil fuel subsidies. The only reason the battle for any budget deal is still alive is because of massive activism and pressure from our progressive movement - thank you for keeping up the fight for Democrats to Deliver. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ US Rep. Rashida Tlaib overcame Big Money to claim victory Tuesday evening, heading into another term in Congress, representing the people of Michigan’s 12th District. Rashida is a bold leader and a champion for progressive legislation in the US House. We need more elected allies like her willing to speak out in the fight for justice and equity. Sadly, US Rep. Andy Levin - a lifelong advocate of working people and labor organizer - put up a good fight on Tuesday, but couldn’t outmatch the $11 million from rightwing billionaires and AIPAC. We won’t take this sitting down, and this isn’t the last we’ll see of Andy. He isn’t capable of giving up the fight — and neither are we. Also this week, Our Revolution Michigan notched wins with State Sen. Erika Geiss, a proud “economic justice warrior” in SD-1, and State Rep. Abraham Aiyash, a proud “lover of environmental justice” in HD-9. Join our inside-outside work with elected allies like Rashida, Erika and Abraham in the fight for living wages, climate action, immigrant rights, Medicare for All and so much more. ★ ★ ★ US Rep. Pramila Jayapal dominated in her primary in Washington’s 7th District on Tuesday - pulling in over 80-percent of the vote! Rep. Jayapal is on to the general election and will likely keep her seat in the US House, where she serves as Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. “Our Revolution candidates aren’t just progressive, they’re organizers — we need more organizing on the inside,” she said on our National Organizing Call. Become a recurring donor to fund our mission of building progressive power in Congress. The more of us there are, the more we can accomplish together. ★ ★ ★ Tuesday was a big win in Missouri with progressive champion Cori Bush (MO-1) winning her primary and heading to the November ballot for what should be an easy re-election! In 2020, Our Revolution members and volunteers worked to help Cori defeat 10-term corporate incumbent Lacy Clay. Now, Rep. Bush will head into her second term as a bold progressive ally in Congress. “We build power by getting more of us in there who are willing to put our minds, our bodies and our reputations on the line to deliver equity and justice for our communities,” Cori told us on our National Organizing Call. ★ ★ ★ Election Day is this Tuesday in Minnesota, where progressive champions US Rep. Ilhan Omar and Our Revolution board member and Attorney General Keith Ellison are on the ballot! Leading national voices for the progressive movement, Ilhan is the whip of the progressive caucus and Keith successfully prosecuted Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd. If you’re in Minnesota, find your polling place HERE! ★ ★ ★ All of Our Revolution’s candidates are also endorsed by Bernie in Tuesday’s primary in Vermont - Peter Welch for US Senate, Becca Balint for Congress, and David Zuckerman for Lt. Governor! “At a time when so many of our people are hurting, we need leaders with experience who will help lead the fight for economic, racial, social, and environmental justice,” Bernie said. In Congress, Peter Welch is a cosponsor of the Green New Deal and he’s led on lowering drug prices, childcare, rural broadband, and protecting our imperiled democracy. As VT Senate Majority Leader, Becca Balint passed the first gun safety laws in state history, invested in affordable housing, and passed the strongest reproductive rights in the nation. David Zuckerman is an organic regenerative farmer, father, and small business owner living in Hinesburg, who has long served as a progressive, independent voice in the VT House and Senate and as Lt. Governor. If you’re in Vermont - or know someone who is - find polling locations HERE! ★ ★ ★ MD RESULTS STILL TRICKLING IN! Our Revolution Maryland is celebrating Kristin Mink’s victory in the Montgomery Co. primary and Prince George’s County’s pivot left. Our members and allies worked to elect Eric Olsen and Wala Blegay to Prince George’s Council, creating the first progressive council majority. The Washington Post reports the council will favor residents and tenants rather than developers and landlords for the first time in many years. The contest for Montgomery Co. Executive remains a dead heat. Progressive incumbent Marc Elrich now leads Big Pharma CEO David Blair by 154 votes as of Friday with thousands still to be tallied. Election officials estimate all ballots may not be counted before August 12th. A recount will very likely follow. Become a recurring donor TODAY to help us take down the worst corporate Dems and give voters the most electable AND progressive candidates in November! ★ ★ ★ This 2022 primary season, Our Revolution Phonebank Force has made more than 500,000 calls o voters across the country. Andy Kim (NJ-3) to co-sponsor Medicare for All in Congress. This is a coalition of low-income workers, immigrant workers, and union workers from locals CWA, Teamsters, UAWA, and others - as well as organizations like New Labor, Insider NJ reports. Labor for Single Payer believes it’s time to take healthcare off the bargaining table Through rallies, op-eds, sign-on letters, legislative visits, and more, our members and allies are keeping up the pressure on Rep. Kim to do the right thing. ★ ★ ★ Our Revolution Massachusetts followed up its April Alternatives to Policing Forum with the Alternative Emergency Response Teams Forum last Sunday on how unarmed caregivers can generate better outcomes than police. Earl Miller from Cambridge HEART (Holistic Emergency Alternative Response Team said Amherst’s Community Responders will take “everything from noise complaints to non-violent disputes and working with homeless and mentally challenged folks.” Barbara Ortiz said HEART prioritizes helping people “right there when they need it without the barriers of language or filling out papers or online applications.” WATCH HERE Also last week, Our Revolution NJ joined 25 NJ groups in a statement of collective opposition to a plan by rightwing Democrat US Rep. Josh Gottheimer to send even more funding to police departments. Data shows police are already funded at historically unprecedented levels, Insider NJ reports, and our members are standing with the ACLU, NAACP, faith organizations, and a diverse coalition to demand better alternatives in NJ. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Congratulations to Our Revolution Ohio member Susan Haas for winning her election to the Democratic State Central Committee in District 20. This is how we make an impact on the direction of the Party in Ohio.
