Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here Introduced the American Energy is Global Security Act to Lower Costs and Protect American Energy Independence Due to President Biden's anti-energy policies, including canceling oil and gas lease sales, Americans are dealing with record-high energy prices. Just this week, the White House celebrated the average price of gas reaching $4.16. This is absurd! Gas cost an average of $2.38 per gallon when Biden took office. In New York, the Cuomo-Hochul Administration enacted its own unscientific, anti-energy policies. This included banning safe energy exploration without any solid environmental or scientific evidence backing the ban up. This has been disastrous for our state and for America's energy independence. New York is sitting on top of the Utica and Marcellus shale formations, which could power our state with clean energy for decades. Unfortunately, far-left policies in Albany and Washington have severely limited our ability to safely tap into these reserves, threatening America’s energy independence, raising prices, and killing thousands of well-paying jobs. As Americans struggle with record-high costs due to Joe Biden and Kathy Hochul’s energy and economic illiteracy, it is time we take actions to reverse this disaster and restore our nation’s energy independence. Americans need clean energy at lower costs now, and delivering on this commitment can and should start right here in New York. That's why I introduced the American Energy is Global Security Act to lower costs for American consumers, power New York State into the future, and secure America's energy independence. This bill would incentivize New York to repeal the statewide ban on hydraulic fracturing by tying it to certain federal green-energy grant programs. America needs an all-of-the-above energy strategy! My outstanding friend and colleague, Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, was tragically killed in a car accident, along with two of her wonderful staffers, Zachary Potts and Emma Thomson. I am absolutely devastated by their loss, and I send my sincerest condolences to their families. Jackie was a woman of incredible integrity, a hardworking legislator, an honorable public servant, and a friend to everyone. She will be sorely missed. It's Time to Drop the Unscientific COVID Vaccine Mandates and #LetNovakPlay On Tuesday, I sent a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging him to issue a National Interest Exemption so that world renowned tennis star Novak Djokovic can compete in the 2022 U.S. Open in New York. Under Presidential Proclamation 10294, individuals who are not U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, or U.S. nationals, are subject to a vaccine mandate in order to enter the country. As such, tennis star Novak Djokovic, who has had COVID-19 but has not received a COVID-19 vaccine, is ineligible to travel to the United States to compete in the 2022 U.S. Open, while others, including unvaccinated Americans, will participate in the tournament. In the letter, I also pressed for the removal of the vaccine mandate for international travel altogether, acknowledging both the present shortcomings of the COVID vaccine as well as the rights of individuals to decide for themselves whether to receive it. You can read the full letter here or above. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS! Should President Biden drop all COVID-19 vaccine mandates? Yes Select No Select President Biden is Failing to Stand up to China China is the United States' greatest adversary on the world stage. However, President Biden's policies, like lifting tariffs on solar panels made with Chinese components and pressuring Speaker Pelosi into backing out of a visit to Taiwan over threats from the Chinese government, are projecting weakness, not strength. This week I joined Fox News to share my thoughts on Speaker Pelosi's trip to China and the Biden Administration's failure to present a united front. Welcoming National Guard Leader to Rome This week, I had the honor of greeting General Daniel Hokanson, Chief of the National Guard Bureau and a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as he arrived at Griffiss Airport in Rome! During our meeting, we discussed the importance of upstate New York's defense assets and the important role that the National Guard plays in sustaining them. Thank you to General Hokanson, and all the brave men and women of the National Guard, for your service to our nation! UPCOMING: Veterans Health and Wellness Expo in Rome This week, I announced that my team of expert caseworkers will be available to assist veterans in need of help with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at the VA Health and Wellness Expo on August 10th in Rome. On Wednesday, August 10, 2022, the VA will be hosting a Health and Wellness Expo to benefit local area Veterans. Vendors will be on site to provide direct care and services to Veterans. The expo will take place at the Donald J. Mitchell Outpatient Clinic at 125 Brookley Rd, Rome, NY 13441. My team will be available at the expo from 9:00AM until 12:00PM. During this event the VA hopes to provide supplies and services to Veterans, such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings and benefits counseling. Veterans can also receive referrals to other assistance such as health care, housing solutions, employment, and mental health counseling. VA Health and Wellness Expo Wednesday, August 10th from 9AM-12PM Donald J. Mitchell VA Outpatient Clinic 125 Brookley Rd, Rome, NY 13441 Share Your Story: Rising Prices Hurt All Americans Fertilizer prices are up 110% over the past two years, which is driving up the cost of food for all Americans. Combined with other price hikes, like energy costs, Americans are struggling to make ends meet. Bruce Gibson of the Oswego County Farm Bureau recently shared a few words with me about the challenges farmers in #NY22 are facing because of soaring costs. I submitted Bruce's comments to the record during a House Small Business Committee hearing to show the difficulties of rampant inflation caused by President Biden's disastrous policies. It's Still Not Too Late: Schedule Your Summer Tour of our Nation's Capitol Today Planning to visit our Nation's Capital soon? Book your tour today! While tours have resumed at several locations, sites such as the U.S. Capitol are doing so incrementally. As such, we are still limited in how many constituent tours we can host each week. Please note, the White House requires 21 days minimum notice to accommodate any tour requests. Availability for both of these tours is extremely limited. I urge you to reach out to my office as soon as possible regarding all future tour requests. You can do so by accessing my tour request portal here. While my office may be unable to secure a Congressional tour for all the sites you have selected given the high demand and currently limited availability, there are a number of locations that remain available for public tours. I urge you to visit house.gov for more information regarding these opportunities. Such locations include the Supreme Court and the National Archives, which you can view here and here. You may also wish to register to receive your very own reader registration card through the Library of Congress, which you can do here. I would also suggest you contact your U.S. Senators, as they too have been successful in accommodating tour requests. You can submit a tour request to Senator Schumer's office here, as well as to Senator Gillibrand here. Have news or updates to share? Email me!
