Dear John,
This week, Speaker Pelosi visited Taiwan, and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has responded with unacceptable acts of aggression. I'm working to ensure that my legislation, the Taiwan Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act gets signed into law promptly so we can proactively defend our strategic, democratic partner in the region.
In Washington, D.C., Democrats are gearing up to pass their so-called "Inflation Reduction Act." Experts agree this bill will do nothing to curb inflation, but it will raise taxes and deploy 87,000 more Internal Revenue Service (I.R.S.) agents to conduct audits targeting low and middle income families. This is unacceptable - especially as Americans are facing skyrocketing prices under the weight of inflation.
On Wednesday, we tragically lost my friend and colleague, Rep. Jackie Walorksi of Indiana. This is a tremendous loss, and I am praying for her family and the families of her staff who we also lost.

The Time to Support Taiwan is Now
|
|
In the wake of Speaker Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has drastically ramped up its hostility against the democratic state of Taiwan, conducting massive military shows of force in Taiwanese waters. If we've learned anything from Vladimir Putin's unprovoked attack of Ukraine, it's that we must be proactive in our efforts to prevent totalitarian regimes from acts of aggression against our democratic partners.

I visited the Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove to take a look at some of the summer programs they have to invest in our kids. I was glad to see all the projects the kids were working on to develop their skills in the arts. The campus even has its own recording studio. Investing in our children is so important, and I was glad to see the work happening here. Thanks for having me!

Kicking Off the 2022 Congressional App Challenge
|
|
My office is now accepting submissions for the Congressional App Challenge (CAC). The CAC is a great way for middle and high school students from across the country to explore and improve their computer-based skills by creating original apps. This competition encourages computer science and innovation skills and offers an opportunity for students to explore potential careers in the STEM field.
Each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year and will be featured on the House of Representatives website. Winning students are also invited to the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C.
The CAC is open to 6th - 12th grade students residing in or attending school in California’s 48th District. Teachers and/or students should verify their eligibility with our office by calling (714) 960-6483.
