John,
The shooter who murdered my beautiful butterfly Dylan carried ten 30-round, high-capacity magazines into Sandy Hook Elementary. He deliberately left the smaller-capacity magazines at home.
In approximately four minutes, he shot 154 bullets, killing 20 children and six educators. Five of those bullets hit Dylan, and in an instant, my baby boy was gone.
My life ended that day. There’s really no other way to put it. The person I was then bears very little resemblance to the person I am now. Now, I’m someone whose entire life is dedicated to honoring Dylan and my surviving son, Jake. I have to protect other families from ever experiencing the nightmare I relive every single day.
And right now, that means raising $642,306 to close our fundraising gap and stay on track for our year-end goal. I dread falling short and not having enough resources to prevent the next school shooting. I can’t accept that – and I hope you won’t, either. Please, will you donate now to help close the gap and protect more children from gun violence?
Dylan continues to be a light in my life, and I will spend the rest of my days ensuring his light continues to shine. But I need your help to do it.
No matter how much it hurts to do this work – it rips my heart out day after day – I know I have to keep pushing forward. It’s what Dylan deserves, what Jake deserves, what every child who can still be saved deserves. Thank you for helping me honor them all by protecting children from gun violence.
With love,
Nicole Hockley (Dylan’s mom)
