I’ve seen them spend hours on the phone, pacing our hallways, calling source after source. Our data reporters run complex mathematical models to reveal the truth behind a mass of numbers.  

Our reporters use every tool they’ve learned, and some they’ve invented along the way, to gather facts for their investigations. And one mission unites all of us here at ProPublica: using the moral force of journalism to spur real-world change. This year, our stories have prompted investigations into government employees, halted and revised school seclusion policies, stopped unethical debt collections on the poor, and much more. Sometimes we see that change quickly, and sometimes it takes longer — but we keep digging, for as long as it takes.
