Summer is on the downswing and back-to-school season is upon us, which also means election season is in full swing! I’m looking forward to sitting down with folks across the district to talk about the important work we are doing day in and day out, and I’m ready to keep making progress for CA-50 families.
Between keeping a close eye on MLB trading news (I’m extending a warm welcome to Juan Soto and Josh Bell! The Padres may just become a World Series contender yet 👀), I’ve been hard at work standing up for our values. Below you’ll find information on what’s been happening in Congress and here in San Diego since our last issue. You can also follow me on

Thank you for all of your support and hard work to keep our campaign going. I’m grateful to have you on our team.
– Scott
Scott is a proven champion for gun safety reform, comprehensive climate action, reproductive freedoms, and more – he is on the front lines of progress, defending our fundamental rights against the barrage of attacks from right-wing extremists.

Protecting Our Environment
The U.S. Forest Service recently rolled out emergency actions to protect giant sequoias, California’s iconic tree. Giant sequoia groves are facing the threat of extinction due to extreme wildfires – these swift forest management and emergency fuel reduction actions are a step in the right direction. Scott applauded the Biden Administration’s commitment to saving California’s treasured forests, and he is pushing forward to call for expanded protections, including the passage of the Save Our Sequoias Act.

Defending Our Right to Privacy
In the wake of a shocking Supreme Court term when politicized justices stripped away the right to privacy in
Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Scott and other Congressional Democrats responded immediately. They passed the Women’s Health Protection Act and the Respect for Marriage Act in an effort to codify both the right to abortion care and the right to marriage equality that the Court directly threatened.
Climate Action
Scott is on the frontlines of Congress’ work tackling the climate crisis. The House passed the Wildfire and Drought Resiliency Act, an important piece of legislation that will help to protect San Diego and other wildlands from devastating wildfires. Climate disasters like extreme drought and the fires currently burning across California will only become more frequent and intense with climate change, which is why Scott and his colleagues in the House are prioritizing resiliency and mitigation efforts like this bill – and this is just the start.

Gun Violence Prevention
In the wake of mass shootings in Uvalde and Buffalo, the House passed the Assault Weapons Ban Act. This bill, cosponsored by Scott, prohibits the sale, manufacture, and transfer of semi-automatic assault rifles. Weapons of war do not belong in our communities – and Scott is calling on his Senate colleagues to act to finish the job and take action to get these military-style weapons off the streets.

Strengthening Our Economy
San Diego families struggle to make ends meet amidst rising inflation and skyrocketing costs of living, that’s why Scott voted to pass major government funding legislation that will provide much-needed benefits to CA-50 residents. From investments in public transportation, infrastructure, clean energy, education, and more, this funding package directly supports families across our district.

Reinvigorating American Manufacturing
Also recently passed in the House, is the CHIPS and Science Act – Scott was glad to vote for this measure to boost American manufacturing, science, and innovation. This historic investment is a major step towards reinvigorating America’s global competitiveness in the technology sector, repairing supply chain weaknesses, and supporting scientific research and development.
Funding Community College Courses
This week, Scott delivered on his promise to invest in public education by securing nearly $1 million in federal funding for the San Diego Community College District. With this funding, the district will add 20 more in-demand courses that will provide free or low cost textbooks to students in those courses. This investment will make college more accessible for those who need it.

Campaign Office Opening
Last month, Scott joined the San Diego Democratic Party for our campaign office opening in San Marcos. As the November election gets closer, he’s doing what he does best – hitting the ground and connecting directly with folks across the region to talk about the issues impacting our daily lives, and how we can tackle those challenges together. Scott is excited to keep this work going and help Democrats win across the board!
