                                                                  August 5, 2022

Greetings,

We hope you had a great week. The beginning of August has already brought big wins for New Jersey, including expanded healthcare for veterans and another month of Congressman Kim’s casework team assisting community members with federal agencies. Also this week, Congressman Kim traveled to the Indo-Pacific region as a member of the Congressional delegation led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

As always, we hope you find the following updates and resources helpful.

A Successful July for Congressman Kim’s Casework Team!

We are proud to serve you everyday and help connect you with federal agencies and programs. In July, our casework team resolved 245 cases and returned $877,885 to our Burlington and Ocean County communities. This brings us to $14,481,999 returned and 1,610 cases closed in 2022 thus far. We are ready and honored to continue to deliver for you.

Following House Passage, Senate Passes Honoring Our PACT Act and Sends it to the President’s Desk

On July 13th, Congressman Kim helped pass the SFC Heath Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act for the second time and sent it to the U.S. Senate. After Senate Republicans received backlash for filibustering this crucial bill, on August 2nd the U.S. Senate also voted to pass the Honoring Our PACT Act.

This legislation makes good on our country’s promise to our veterans by giving them the care and benefits they have earned. Most significantly, the legislation will expand healthcare access for 3.5 million veterans exposed to toxic substances during service and provide a presumption of service connection for hypertension and monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) for Vietnam veterans.

The Honoring Our PACT Act is expected to be signed into law next week. VA is encouraging all veterans and survivors who believe they may be entitled to apply now for VA healthcare and benefits. You can learn more at VA.gov/PACT or by calling 1-800-MyVA411.

Congressman Kim’s Team Joins National Night Out Festivities

On Tuesday, our office was glad to take part in National Night Out in Barnegat. National Night Out is a great opportunity to bring communities across the country together and foster partnerships with first responders.

Monkeypox Outbreak Declared a Public Health Emergency

On August 4th, the Biden administration declared monkeypox a public health emergency. Currently, the CDC recommends vaccination for people who have been exposed to monkeypox or who are more likely to get monkeypox. For more information on symptoms, testing, and vaccines, visit the New Jersey Department of Health website here.
