The Tri-Cities Says: "Keep Your Hands Off Our Dams!" On Monday, August 1st, I hosted a Community Rally to Save Our Dams at Howard Amon Park. Over 100 community members came to show their support for these critical pieces of infrastructure, and the many benefits they provide to our region. We heard from Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who has worked hand-in-hand with me in our fight to protect our dams. Katie Nelson, a farmer and business owner who understands this issue firsthand; Commissioner Lori Sanders, President of the Benton PUD Board of Commissioners, who spoke to the public power benefits that the dams provide our region; and Todd Myers of the Washington Policy Center, a well-known author and environmental policy expert who speaks regularly to the science and facts about the impacts of the dams. We have the science, we have the data and the dollars, we have the experts, and we have the community on our side in this debate. And so long as I am in Congress, I will not let our dams be breached. I am pleased to introduce this legislation and encourage my colleagues to support this important program that will provide much-needed assistance to Central Washington’s growers so they can continue producing the high-quality Washington crops Americans enjoy for many years to come. Learn More on my Website Demanding Transparency on the Biden Administration's Efforts to Breach LSRD This week, I wrote to the Biden Administration to express my deep concern about recent actions it has taken which have demonstrated a seeming disregard for scientific integrity. Specifically, the lack of transparency and obvious political intervention in processes regarding the recent release of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) draft “report” relating to the Columbia River Basin. Even more alarming, I have received further indication of political maneuvering by this administration to prevent information on the costs of replacing the power generated by the Lower Snake River dams on the Federal Columbia River Power System from being made public prior to the release of the previously mentioned NOAA draft ‘report.’ The recent actions by this administration have sown complete distrust in this administration’s ability to lead with facts, science, and transparency regarding the Columbia River System. I am holding them accountable to ensure our community is heard in this debate.
