John, nearly 700,000 Americans live in Washington, D.C.
They pay taxes. They serve our country in uniform. They start their own small businesses. They care for their neighbors, their friends, and their colleagues, just like the rest of us – but they are not treated like the rest of us.
Even though our nation was founded in the fight against taxation without representation, the residents of Washington, D.C., pay federal taxes and register for the Selective Service but have no votes in Congress!
It doesn't take expertise in constitutional law to see what's going on here: It's just plain wrong that D.C. residents don't have representation in Congress. We cannot fully repair our broken democracy without fixing this, and we need your support to take on this fight.
These folks deserve to have their voices represented in the House and Senate. They deserve a full and equal say in the future of our country.
I'm proud to be the lead sponsor of a bill that would make D.C the 51st state, and I've been pushing my colleagues to make D.C. statehood happen. Today, there is more momentum for change than ever before, but if Mitch McConnell retakes the Senate, D.C. statehood will become another item in a long list that Republicans will block from happening.
We need to protect our Senate majority and demand that every American be represented in the U.S. Senate. I promise that I'll fight hard to win D.C. statehood, but I'm counting on you to stand with me. Please, can you make a donation of $5 or more to defend our Senate majority and ensure that we finally give D.C. citizens the full rights and representation they deserve?

I'm so grateful to have your support.
The fight continues,
