Dear JOHN,

August is one of my favorite months because I get to spend the most time at home in Rochester! This week, I had the opportunity to visit with businesses across the community and highlight the important work being done to create jobs, uplift families, and strengthen our future. Read more below.

Just a few months ago, I stood with local business and education leaders, urging Congress to take up legislation to invest in regional innovation, jump-start our local economy, and create new opportunities for families right here in Rochester. I’m proud to say: we got it done.

Last week, both the House and Senate passed the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act, sending to the President’s desk an historic package that will have real, meaningful impacts on our community. We’re creating jobs, lowering costs, and creating long-term economic stability that will propel Rochester into the future. It was a privilege to help craft this legislation as a member of the Conference Committee and lead the House floor debate, and I look forward to seeing the President sign it into law.

Morelle Touts Legislation Aiming to Bolster Local Technology Sector

Studies show that children without summer learning opportunities are two years behind their peers. As the husband of a retired teacher, I know the joy of summer break is often overshadowed by the threat of learning loss or food insecurity. That’s why I’ve introduced the Summer Meals and Learning Act to establish reading programs at schools serving as summer meal sites. Ensuring children have access to healthy food and continuing education during the summer months will uplift our local families and place our children on a path to success.

Children like these new friends I made at the Cameron Community Ministries' Freedom School summer camp, which I had the privilege of visiting this week! I’m grateful for their efforts to curb summer learning loss and bring the joy of reading to life for children in our community.

Programs like this are critical to empowering youth and helping families thrive, and I am committed to providing resources to help them succeed for years to come.

We owe it to our veterans to provide the essential care and benefits they’ve earned. That’s why I led the debate in favor of the Honoring Our PACT Act to strengthen healthcare for servicemembers exposed to toxic substances. After an inexcusable delay, I'm glad the Senate has finally joined us in passing this critical legislation, and I look forward to the President swiftly signing it into law. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I remain committed to fighting for all those who serve our nation.

Congressman Joe Morelle Strengthens Essential Healthcare for Veterans

I was grateful for the opportunity to join the Irondequoit Police Department in celebrating National Night Out. Our community stands united in our commitment to supporting our first responders, reducing violence, and enhancing public safety. We all have a role to play in building stronger neighborhoods—which is why in Congress, I’m working to enhance support for local law enforcement, crack down on illegal weapons and gun trafficking, and strengthen community resources.

This year’s gathering was especially poignant following the tragic loss of a local hero who we laid to rest earlier this week. My heart goes out to the family of Officer Mazurkiewicz, and to our entire community that is collectively grieving this profound loss.

Thank you to the officers who work tirelessly day in and day out to keep our community safe.
