I hope that you are well and enjoying a restful summer.

My colleagues and I are mourning the loss of Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, and two of her staff members, who were tragically killed in a car crash in Elkhart, Indiana on Wednesday. Jo and I are saddened by the passing of Rep. Walorski and her two staffers, Zachery Potts and Emma Thomson. Please join me, my colleagues, and the nation in praying for the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy.

Flags on Capitol Hill will be flown at half-staff in Walorski’s honor. My colleague, Republican Whip Steve Scalise, put it well:

"Jackie was an instrumental member of our conference, serving as a member of my deputy whip team for several years. She was a champion for the people of Indiana, and she will be remembered for her kindness, tenacity, and commitment to helping others."

The Inflation “Reduction” Act

This week, Senate Democrats, led by Joe Manchin and Chuck Schumer, agreed to put Americans last by raising taxes and funneling $700+ billion to Green New Deal projects at a time when families can't afford groceries and gasoline. 

Expecting this bill to help ease inflation is like expecting a hose full of gasoline to put out a fire. This disastrous legislation will raise taxes, stifle the economy, cost jobs and income, and supercharge the IRS with 87,000 agents to go after middle class Americans in the form of pernicious audits.

This bill will crush American families at a time when they can least afford it. Republicans must stand united against this America Last barrage.

Something Rotten at the DOJ

This week, I went on Dr. Sebastian Gorka’s America First radio show and The Jesse Kelly Show to discuss the DOJ National Security Division's involvement in the plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. We discussed what Republicans need to do in order to fix the DOJ.

It's clear that something is rotten at the Department of Justice. Every level of this agency needs to be held accountable and seriously reformed. One way to do this, which I discussed with Jesse Kelly, is by smashing the DOJ's Washington Field Office which seems to be the hub of all these shady dealings.

Now Hiring Fall Interns!

My Washington, D.C., office is now hiring interns for this fall. Internships are open for students who will be living in or around Washington, DC during the fall months between September and December of 2022. All internships are paid and offer students the opportunity to gain invaluable work experience.

Interns will be asked to answer phones, research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, assist the communications team, attend hearings and briefings, and answer constituent letters. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office.

The 2022 Congressional App Challenge

Students in District 9 interested in coding are invited to compete in this year’s National Congressional App Challenge. Individuals or teams may submit their application for any digital platform (web app, desktop/PC app, a web browser extension, robot, Ruby on Rails, mobile, etc.) and can use any programming language (C/C++, Objective C, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, PHP, Swift, “block code”, etc.).

App submissions must show some degree of functionality to be competitive!
