Like most parents I know, there are nights I can hardly sleep thinking about the world my children will grow up in. It was this thought, of my role in shaping that world, that led me to create New Politics.

My guiding vision was to empower a new generation of leaders who embodied the values so clearly missing from our politics: courage, integrity, and empathy.

The cynicism and short-sighted opportunism that’s come to define our political climate was on full display recently when news broke that the DCCC – a campaign arm of the Democratic party – spent significant money and resources to promote a fringe, election-denier.

To make matters worse, those resources were spent in the Republican primary where New Politics servant leader Peter Meijer was running a close race for re-election. Meijer, as I’m sure you know, took a difficult and principled vote to hold the leader of his party accountable for January 6th. What you may not know is that since then, he’s gotten more bills signed into law than any other first-term member of Congress. Ever. In other words, exactly the kind of leader we need more of right now. A public servant who is actually interested in serving the public!

You can learn more and read my thoughts on this in my Real Clear Politics op-Ed here.

Look , I’m not naïve. I understand there are campaign tactics the parties use during the primaries to better position their candidates in the general election. But just because it happens doesn’t make it right, and this is especially true as we face an ever-growing threat to our democracy.

Public service is a calling bigger than any one person, one party, or one cycle. That’s why New Politics specifically uplifts these leaders and gives them the tools they need to go up against multimillion dollar forces.

Please read and share my Op-Ed so we can build the pressure and bring an end to cynical campaign tactics that endanger our democracy.

And, if you are motivated to go a step further… donate now to help New Politics support more servant leaders like Peter Meijer.

More soon,
Emily

We support outstanding military veterans and national service leaders, alumni of programs like AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps, to step up and serve our country again, this time through politics. We were proud to be behind the movement of veterans who ran for office for the first time in 2018, and we have big plans to grow into the future.
