Washington, D.C. (August 5, 2022) – The Center for Immigration Studies presents a compilation of legislative provisions to address the most pressing immigration problems. This collection of “shovel ready” legislation, some of which has been introduced previously in the House and/or Senate, suggests a number of options for meaningful immigration reform legislation without reinventing the wheel.
These provisions cover a wide range of immigration topics, including border security, detention, employment eligibility, alien smuggling, asylum reform, visa security, reducing immigration levels, temporary work visas, and limiting amnesty. Whether Congress decides to focus on slowing the flow of illegal immigrants at the southern border, protecting American workers and taxpayers, or facilitating the removal of illegal and criminal aliens, the Center’s compilation provides the building blocks for discussion.
George Fishman, the Center’s Senior Legal Fellow and a former Republican Chief Counsel for the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee with jurisdiction over immigration, said, “During my two decades of working on Judiciary’s immigration subcommittee, I read and wrote a lot of immigration bills, parts of which I have included in this extensive collection of legislative provisions. It is my hope that the public will find this language to be a useful starting point for discussions addressing the border crisis and other problems in our immigration system.”
