We passed the assault weapons ban through the House!

John – Last week, the House passed a bill to ban assault weapons – the first legislation of its kind in over two decades!

Philly residents are all too familiar with the harmful effects of gun violence, and it’s well past due for Congress to step up to the plate and address this issue head-on. I’m proud to have stood with my Democratic colleagues and voted for this bill.

A Fox News poll from June found that 63% of registered voters support banning assault weapons. I’ve heard the growing support for common sense reform across our nation, and I will continue to fight for legislation that will save lives.

While the bill passed the House, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has made it clear he has no interest in taking up action on this bill in the Senate. He and his Republican colleagues are out of touch with the American people and beholden to the gun lobby instead of the citizens they represent.

Enough is enough. Let’s get these weapons of war off of our streets. Americans are tired of “thoughts and prayers” – they demand action.

Join me in calling on Mitch McConnell and the Senate to immediately bring this necessary and life-saving gun safety legislation to a vote. Add your name to tell the Senate that it’s past time to act. >>

The assault weapons ban, combined with the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that President Biden signed into law earlier this year, are significant and essential first steps to ending this senseless violence. I also introduced a 7-part plan to tackle gun violence in April, which you can learn about here.

The gun violence epidemic isn't unsolvable. We have the tools to create change and save lives. Join me in calling on the Senate to bring life-saving gun legislation to a vote. Sign the petition >>

With gratitude,

Dwight Evans
