Will your child be moving up to Secondary School in September 2022?
If they were born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 the answer is yes. Applications are now open and the deadline to apply for a Secondary School place is 5pm on 31 October 2022. It's really important that you apply on time.

To do this you will need to complete the online application ([link removed]) . It’s quick and easy and ensures school offers can be made efficiently via e-mail.

Please note, there is only one application. No matter where you wish your child to attend school, if you live in Oldham, you will apply to Oldham Council.

All Secondary Schools and Academies will be holding open days and evenings during September and October. Make sure that you go along to as many as you can.

For more information visit www.oldham.gov.uk/admissions or contact the School Admissions Team on: 0161 770 4213 if you need any help or advice.

The Annual Canvass is underway
Every year, we update the electoral register to make sure that everyone who is eligible to vote can. The process is known as the Annual Canvass and involves letters being sent to every household in the borough over the next couple of months.

The first letters were sent to households in July and have asked you to confirm that your details are correct, or to amend them if they have changed.

When you receive the form, complete your details online at Household Response ([link removed]) using the security code included on your letter or return the completed form by post.

More information is available here ([link removed]) .
International Youth Day
Next Friday we are celebrating International Youth Day and we want to take this opportunity to share as many positive and inspiring stories about our children and young people as possible on the day.

This is where you come in. If you have any stories that you think are worth sharing with us, we’d love to hear them, so send them into us before Wednesday 10 August.

It could be a story about an award someone has won, a fundraising campaign, or even just a bit of selfless volunteering – any example where you feel young people have made a difference, overcome a challenge or achieved something big or small that deserves celebrating.

Send your stories and a relevant picture, to
[email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) and we’ll share them on social media on Friday 12 August.

Don’t Trash Oldham: successful prosecution after waste found
We have successfully prosecuted a resident after rubbish was found behind Briscoe St, Coldhurst. Our staff investigated and traced the rubbish to Lisa Ashworth.

Ashworth, now of Fields New Rd, Chadderton, pleaded guilty to a duty of care offence when she appeared in court on 1 August. She was told by magistrates to hand over a total of £708.

Since we started our Don’t Trash Oldham clean up campaign more than 340 people have been fined for environmental crimes.

To find out how you can help clean up the borough and report people who are dumping waste visit www.oldham.gov.uk/donttrasholdham

Have your say on our library service
We know our libraries – and the many services they offer – are important to residents of all ages. Now we want to hear from you.

Tell us what you think of our library service and how it can be improved.

The consultation will hopefully provide an insight into what you value about the service, what you would like to see more of and if there are any barriers to access that we can address.

Anyone who lives, works or studies in the borough can take part. We’ve also put together a version designed specifically for our young people as we know their views are crucial as we want them to use our services for life.

You can complete the survey here ([link removed]) . Paper copies will also be available in all borough libraries.
