Friend,

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has taken his anti-immigrant agenda to new extremes. In July, he issued an unlawful executive order instructing Texas law enforcement to apprehend and attempt to expel migrants — another political stunt that demonizes immigrants and oversteps his authority.

We are not standing by while Greg Abbott attacks immigrants. Give today to support our work and fight back against Abbott and anti-immigrant politicians. >>>

Abbott is responsible for “Operation Lone Star,” an unlawful program that criminalizes migrants and people of color, which is now being investigated by the Justice Department for egregious civil rights violations. Through this xenophobic program, Governor Abbott deployed the Texas National Guard and law enforcement officers to target migrants for criminal prosecution for the state criminal offense of “trespassing,” based on their perceived race, national origin, and immigration status.

Along the way, Abbott has justified his actions with racist and false rhetoric about an “invasion” at the border. This hateful speech is designed to inflame his supporters and sow anti-immigrant fervor. In fact, Wednesday was three years since a white gunman opened fire at a Walmart in El Paso, killing 23 people, most of whom were Latinx and immigrants. The suspect was motivated by what he called a "Hispanic invasion" of people coming to the U.S. “illegally.”

Abbott is not alone amongst the GOP in waging a war on immigrants. Across the country, politicians are vilifying immigrants, our asylum system, and people seeking refuge to score cheap political points as they vie to remain in power.

Abbott is running for a third term for governor, so we’re fighting back to ensure he and other anti-immigrant Republican politicians are not reelected to advance their dangerous anti-immigrant agenda. Friend, will you join our fight and add a donation today?
