Amber serves as Program Officer for ECMC Foundation where she oversees the Single Mother Student Success portfolio. As a previous first-gen single student parent, Amber is passionate about student parents and is an advocate for higher education support initiatives for all underserved students.
Marni Roosevelt, Founder, Los Angeles Valley College Family Resource Center
Marni founded the Los Angeles Valley College (LAVC) Family Resource Center (FRC) with the vision of creating a family-friendly campus to support parenting students. It is the first on a community college campus in California. Marni considers education an anti-poverty strategy and is passionate that parents’ success in higher education benefits the entire family.
Luma Haddad, Program Specialist, Los Angeles Valley College Family Resource Center
Luma is a Program Specialist at Los Angeles Valley College's Family Resource Center where she centers her work on expanding social capital and educational access for whole families. Via her role at the FRC, Luma pinpoints individual barriers to student parent success and directs internal resources and community resource referrals in order to help eliminate barriers.
Lorena Holbrook, Student Parent Program Alumna, Los Angeles Valley College Family Resource Center
Lorena is a recent alumna of Los Angeles Valley College and of the FRC student parent program. She is currently attending Loma Linda University working toward her Bachelors of Science in Nursing. While at LAVC, Lorena worked at the Family Resource Center as a student parent advocate and tutor. Lorena has continued her passion to mentor and support student parents and continues to tutor her peers.
Andra Hoffman, President, Board of Trustees, Los Angeles Community College District
Andra Hoffman was elected to the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Board of Trustees in 2015 and has served as its President since 2019, representing over 250,000 students, nine community colleges, and serving students from 40 cities. She has dedicated her life to improving the lives of LA County residents by increasing their access to quality higher education. She has helped hundreds of students successfully complete their degree and facilitated the launch of their careers with job placement services.
