Six LGBTQ Stories You Should Know About
1. Big Primary Wins This Week!
This was an exciting week with primaries in Arizona, Michigan, Ohio, Kansas, Missouri and Washington! 88% of our candidates WON their elections.
Here are some of the highlights:
Game Changer candidate Sharice Davids won her primary and is one step closer to heading back to the U.S. Congress this November! All our incumbent state House candidates – Heather Meyer, Susan Ruiz and Brandon Woodard – also advanced in their primaries.
Kansans also voted on a ballot initiative to remove abortion protections from the Kansas state Constitution. Kansans overwhelmingly voted to protect the right to choose – a big win for the pro-choice movement! Watch Representative Davids’ response to the vote on abortion rights here.
Game Changer candidates Kris Mayes in Arizona and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel both advanced in their primaries. Kris emphasized the importance of keeping election deniers out of positions of power to preserve democracy in the United States. She’ll be facing a Trump-endorsed Big Lie supporter in the General Election this fall. Similar to Mayes, Dana Nessel is also facing an election denier who is buddy-buddy with January 6th organizers.
LGBTQ trailblazer Jim Obergefell won his primary election for the Ohio state House! Flipping this seat in November will be a huge win for the LGBTQ community.
Congratulations to all our victorious candidates and onward to November!
