Dear John,
There has been much talk about the new cabinet of Colombia’s new President, Gustavo Petro, who is taking office on Sunday, and the many human rights challenges his country is facing.
The road will not be an easy one but what is clear is that protection of civilians, particularly those who have been marginalised for decades such as Afro-Colombian, indigenous and palenquero communities, is essential.
Find out more in my recent commentary outlining some of the main human rights challenges Petro’s government will face and an analysis by WOLA’s President, Carolina Jiménez Sandoval and WOLA’s Director for Defense Oversight, Adam Isacson, on how the government can make Colombians safer.
And finally, huge congratulations to WOLA’s Vice President for Development, Lauren Kimball, for being granted the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) credential!
Thanks for reading and please help us spread the word.
Best,
