John, on Tuesday, Cori Bush officially secured the Democratic nomination for Missouri's 1st Congressional district with a resounding victory.
We were overwhelmed to see that over 65,000 St. Louisans voted for Cori and our mandate for bold, progressive change. It fills our hearts to see how energized this people-powered movement is to keep Cori in Congress.
You see, when Cori first ran for Congress, the powers that be wrote us off. The wealthy and powerful didn’t think that someone like Cori could be elected to office. Because you don’t meet that many members of Congress who’ve been evicted, lived in their car, or even lived paycheck to paycheck.
But that’s exactly why it was so important for us to send Cori to Congress. Because it’s everyday people that should be driving our politics and pushing for the solutions that matter most to folks like you, John.
People power is the reason why we were able to defeat a 20-year incumbent and make Cori the first Black woman to represent Missouri in Congress and the first activist from the movement in defense of Black lives to be elected to federal office. And people power is how we’re going to make sure Cori is re-elected on November 8.
That’s why today we’re reaching out to ask you to personally endorse Cori ahead of the general election. By adding your name, you’re sending a loud and powerful message that there’s a grassroots movement rising up to help keep Cori in Congress and center everyday people in our politics.
Together we’ve made so much progress already in Cori’s first term in office. But our work isn't finished yet.
People are still going to bed hungry. Folks in St. Louis are still being evicted in the midst of an ever-changing pandemic. And the climate crisis threatens us all. We need to pass critical legislation including Medicare for All, the Green New Deal for Cities, and the People's Response Act — families and future generations are counting on us.
Right-wing forces already started coming out against Cori in the Democratic primary, so we know that they are not going to let up anytime soon. They are witnessing the transformative power of the people and the power of radical love, and they’re going to do everything in their power to stop it. It’s going to take a lot of resources to take on the far-right movement, but we believe in us. Let’s show them we’re ready to rise up with Cori in this work:
