Dear friend,

We hope you're enjoying summer, whether that means watching the sunset in P-town, kayaking in the Charles, or swimming at Walden Pond. We invite you to celebrate and support immigrants who have also found a home in Massachusetts, and contributed to making the Commonwealth such a vibrant place.

As we reflect on the value of community and belonging, we know that many immigrants are starting over in the U.S., and seeking to find connections with others. We are delighted that our programs offer this opportunity, as adult immigrant students find belonging in our English classrooms and are empowered to follow their own paths.

Here’s what Monica*, one of our students, shared about her experience:

“I started taking classes at the Rian Immigrant Center in February 2020. At first it was just to improve my English. My English was so bad at that time. By taking a class I learned more about the different programs that the Center offers to the students other than learning English.

Despite the fact that COVID-19 changed everything, the Education Director and the teachers found a way for students to continue taking their class via Zoom. My journey with the Center was better than expected for an immigrant like me, who did not work and needed financial support sometimes. The support that the Center provided helped me a lot with my son, for clothing, food, basic needs and bills.

The Center helped me also with my preparation for my goal to become a nurse, my GED and to pass the test. I'm looking forward to seeing the Rian Immigrant Center keep doing what they are doing for immigrant students. Now that I am a legal immigrant I'm looking forward to pursuing my studies so I can have a better future for me and my son.

Thank you so much for everything, Director, Teachers and Staff at the Center.”
