I’m disgusted by the biased media narrative about Black people being victims
of systemic racism in 2022. This is after we elected a Black president and
despite all the evidence of successful Black individuals in mainstream culture.

So why is there a perpetual narrative of Black victimhood?

Because it is through fear and manipulation the media and organizations like
BLM control Black communities. By keeping Black communities as victims, it
allows BLM and others to exploit and keep their power over them.

I too once believed this narrative. But something deep down told me to rethink
everything I’ve been told. It was my grandfather who broke their narrative in a
powerful way.

Now before I tell you the story, I want to introduce you to the BLEXIT
Foundation.

I co-founded BLEXIT in 2019 in order to break the victimhood mentality in
Black and urban communities. I see our communities being exploited by fear and
victimhood in order to get them dependent on the government, which in turn
breaks up the family, and ultimately, perpetuates the cycle of poverty.

oppressor.

Story: How my grandfather taught me to never be a victim.

My grandfather raised me. I didn’t come from a perfect home. My parents split
up. And what I enjoyed most about my grandfather were his stories.

He grew up during the Jim Crow era and real racism, not this fake racism CNN
finds on the internet or lies about.

But there’s one story he told I will NEVER forget.

As a boy, he worked on the family’s share crop farm. Each morning he would
wake up at 4am to lay out the tobacco to dry. Despite their difficult
circumstances, they stayed together as a family and persevered.

Then one night the KKK showed up. My grandfather woke up to bullets being shot
into his home. He and his siblings hid underneath their beds.

And then a smirk came across my grandfather’s face “my father got his shotgun
and fired back at them boys!”

The way he said it was with so much pride. And what I can’t fathom is how in
the face of this real danger, my grandfather was proud of his father for
fighting back and not giving up.

Can you imagine if we all had this type of attitude?! Not letting
circumstances hold us back. Not being a perpetual victim. Nowadays, people need
days off work because a comedian told a joke that they don’t like!

It was through my grandfather’s example that I learned not to ever be a
victim.

He eventually bought the same share crop farm his father worked on and
started his own farm. He was financially successful, loved his wife, children,
and grandchildren for his entire life.

While not everyone can have an individual like my grandfather in their lives,
through BLEXIT we are going into Black and urban communities to empower people.

And it’s working…Since our start in 2019, BLEXIT has grown substantially with
42 grassroots chapter programs in 42 states, over 15,000 volunteer members and
local community leaders, and nearly 60,000 grassroots supporters.

police officers and connecting as a community is critical to creating justice.
