Hello,
We recently had our first heat wave of the season in Vermont—six consecutive days of the temperature being 90 degrees or higher. And because of climate change, these heat waves are growing more common and more extreme.
In fact, the average number of heat wave days in Vermont is projected to increase from 10 a year currently, to nearly 50 days a year by 2050. Not only is this rise in temperatures damaging for the environment, but it also affects our livelihoods and quality of life.
This is why I’ve been fighting for a Green New Deal. Because climate change is the existential threat of our time. We must come together and demand that Congress act with urgency to address this, and that’s what I’ll do on my first day in the Senate. If you can, will you chip in $5 or more to help build a movement for a Green New Deal?

Rising temperatures affect all of us. But for Vermont’s most vulnerable communities—people experiencing homelessness, the elderly, the chronically ill, those who lack transportation and air conditioning—the sweltering heat can be life or death. That gets even more concerning when you consider that Burlington is ranked among the top “heat islands” in the country.
Every American—no matter who they voted for, no matter their ZIP code—deserves to live on a sustainable planet.
A Green New Deal would provide the opportunity to invest in sustainable housing infrastructure and create good jobs that fight climate change. We can establish a national renewable energy standard, accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, and more. But we need Congress to acknowledge the urgency of this moment, and Republicans in Washington to stop burying their heads in the sand.
I’m proud to be an original cosponsor of the Green New Deal—I hope you’ll chip in whatever you can to send me to the Senate to go get the job done.
Thanks so much,
Peter
