This month I am excited to be bringing back an event that I look forward to every year. On August 23, I hope you will join me and others in our District for the 20th Annual Women's Luncheon from 11:15 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This year's women's luncheon will be a recognition of role Maryland Women play in progressing our state forward, but it will also be a call to action to mobilize the women's vote across Maryland. With so much at state for our country- from reproductive rights, to addressing gun violence, to protecting our democracy - I am glad to be hosting this luncheon once more with the theme: Get Out Her Vote.
I'm proud to announce that my friend and colleague Rep. Lucy McBath will be our keynote speaker at this event. She has been a fierce advocate in Congress for mothers and women. In 2012, Lucy lost her son teenage son to an act of gun violence. This tragic event brought her to Congress, where she has been focused on passing laws to help our children and families. She is proud to have worked on numerous pieces of legislation which have been passed through the House, including universal background checks for all gun sales and Red Flag Laws to limit access to firearms for those who are potentially dangerous. I look forward to welcoming her as the keynote speaker for the 20th Annual Women's Equality Day Luncheon.
